Congratulations to the University of Eldoret Millineum Fellows!

The University of Eldoret, United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI), and MCN (Millennium Campus Network) are proud to present the Millennium Fellowship Class of 2024, an ambitious program to help make the Sustainable Development Goals and UNAI principles a reality.  Millennium Fellows were selected from a record-breaking 52,581 applicants to join the Class of 2024, hailing from 6,000+ universities worldwide.  The Class of 2024 consists of 4,000+ driven undergraduates at 280+ universities in 48 nations.

University of Eldoret has 14 Millennium Fellows who will embark on a semester-long journey to build the skills necessary for a career rooted in the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In addition to poring over the Millennium Fellowship curriculum in tandem with Fellowship cohorts on their university campuses, Millennium Fellows each undertake a social impact project - either as individuals or in groups - to advance one or more of the 17 SDGs and 10 UNAI principles, a list of 17 objectives focusing on areas such as social justice, sustainability, poverty, equity, education, and economic growth. The projects the undergraduates carry out on their campuses and communities will realize the sustainable development goals in tangible and innovative ways.

The Millennium Fellows of the University of Eldoret are working on a campus project ‘Differently Enabled’ that is aimed at solving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 5: Gender Equality, and 10: Reduced Inequalities. The project focuses on eradicating the stigma and stereotype towards persons living with disabilities (PWDs), specifically the visually impaired, in pursuing STEM-related courses and career paths by creating awareness in the community . In many countries in the world, especially African countries, people living with disabilities often have a defined career path that limits their potential. The idea that persons living with disabilities cannot pursue STEM courses brings disparity and marginalizes these people bringing inequality that also affects their mental health.

The objectives of “Differently Enabled” are:

  • Bridging the gap between the disabled and the abled persons.
  • Helping the PWDs find other avenues to sustain themselves.
  • Create workshops to sensitize the public to create a safer environment for the PWDs.
  • Providing a safe space for the PWDs to make them feel included in the society and it’s growth and development.
